A Historic Week for GE Aerospace at Farnborough

Last week, GE Aerospace attended the Farnborough International Airshow, showcasing how our investments are shaping the future of flight, while commercial momentum continues to grow our installed base.

To kick off the week, GE Aerospace celebrated a historic achievement, completing the world's first hybrid electric flight above 30,000 feet, matching the cruising altitude of commercial aircraft. During the testing campaign, partnering with BETA Technologies and Boeing under NASA's Electrified Powertrain Flight Demonstration project, the team's single longest flight in hybrid electric operation was more than two hours. This  demonstration highlights that hybrid electric technologies are viable for commercial aviation. 

This flight test builds on five years of progress within the CFM RISE program, including the completion of the Preliminary Design Reviews for the Open Fan, Outlet Guide Vane, and compact core systems.

At the same time, we remain focused on what matters most to our customers through improving time-on-wing and cost of ownership. With time-on-wing three times higher than competing engines, the GEnx-1B has reached 50 million flight hours in just over 14 years, the fastest pace ever for a GE Aerospace widebody engine. This performance has helped the GEnx-1B achieve a nearly 80% life-of-program win rate on the Boeing 787. On the narrowbody side, GE Aerospace certified the LEAP-1B durability kit, expected to roughly double time-on-wing, building on a LEAP-1A fleet where 70% now fly with the reverse bleed system and 40% have the durability kit installed.

Our continued investments across our widebody and narrowbody platforms helped support ~1800 engine commitments throughout the week. Key highlights include:

  • IndiGo signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with CFM International for more than 1,000 LEAP-1A engines to power 510 Airbus A320neo family aircraft, the largest single order ever placed for LEAP engines. The agreement also included a long-term material services agreement and support for IndiGo's upcoming engine MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) facility, highlighting customer confidence in the product performance and durability.
  • Abra Group (Avianca and GOL) selected 100 CFM LEAP-1A engines to power 50 Airbus A320neo aircraft, along with spare engines and a long-term services agreement covering both Abra's A320neo fleet and GOL's Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, bringing the group's combined LEAP-powered fleet to more than 650 aircraft. 
  • BOC Aviation finalized its largest engine order to date, agreeing to purchase up to 300 CFM LEAP engines for Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. 
  • Philippine Airlines selected GE Aerospace's GEnx-1B engines to power 15 new Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners, with purchase rights for five additional aircraft.

These commitments add to our installed base that drives our Commercial services demand, where orders increased 34% year-over year in the first half, an acceleration of growth over 2025. In Commercial services, our 2026 shop visits are more than 40% oversubscribed and spare parts delinquency rose 20% sequentially in Q2. We continue to improve the supply chain to meet this demand, with material input up double digits both sequentially and year-over-year in 2Q — with the 9th straight quarter of sequential growth. This drove first-half total engine deliveries up 31%, including LEAP deliveries up 41%, and services revenue growth of 32% year-over-year. 

 We also hosted several investors and analysts for a visit to our Wales MRO site to showcase how we are using FLIGHT DECK to reduce shop visit turnaround time (TAT) to meet the needs of our customers. The site performs overhauls of CFM56 and GE90, and is responsible for ~10% of our total internal shop visit volume. Utilizing FLIGHT DECK and learnings from our Celma team, our team at Wales has been implementing module flow lines to eliminate waste and improve TAT. Actions like these contributed to a one-week reduction of CFM56 TAT at Wales in the first half this year, and our total 2Q shop visit TAT improving by about a week since the end of 2025.
