GE Aerospace Hosts CH-53K Helicopter Powered by T408 Engines at Lynn Facility

June 09, 2025

LYNN, MA – June 9, 2024 – GE Aerospace hosted the U.S. Marine Corps’ most advanced heavy-lift helicopter, the Sikorsky CH-53K® King Stallion™ at its Lynn, Massachusetts facility. The CH-53K, powered by three T408 engines, touched down at the GE Aerospace site – where its engines are manufactured – showcasing the cutting-edge capabilities that enable the U.S. Marine Corps to maintain a significant advantage in the most demanding conditions.

“We are incredibly proud to have the CH-53K King Stallion visit GE Aerospace,” said Scott Snyder, heavy lift engines program director. “For the GE Aerospace team, seeing the T408 engines we build here in Lynn powering the helicopter is a powerful reminder of the impact of our work. It’s a testament to the dedication and skill of our people, knowing that their efforts are directly supporting the success of the U.S Marine Corps and enhancing their mission readiness.”

The T408 engines, built with advanced materials and manufacturing processes, are produced at GE Aerospace’s Lynn facility, which has been a leader in military propulsion for over a century. The engine offers 7,500 shaft horsepower, which is 57 percent more power than its predecessor, the GE Aerospace T64. The capabilities offered by the T408 allow the CH-53K to perform its critical heavy-lift mission for the Marine Corps, joint forces and allies around the globe in challenging conditions.

The T408 also offers 18 percent better specific fuel consumption that will deliver significant savings over the life of each engine. The T408 also has 63 percent fewer parts and advanced designs, such as a more rugged compressor with erosion coating and split casing, that improves both reliability and maintainability.

The visit of the CH-53K helicopter to Lynn celebrates GE Aerospace’s longstanding commitment to supporting the U.S. military with reliable and advanced propulsion systems. The Lynn facility, which is recognized as one of the founding sites of the General Electric Company, has a rich history of innovation, producing engines that have powered military missions for generations.
