GE To Provide Nuovo Pignone With First LM1600 With DLE Combustion System For Gas Pipeline Service

December 04, 1996

ORLANDO, FL - GE Marine & Industrial Engines (M&I) will provide Nuovo Pignone with an LM1600 aeroderivative gas turbine equipped with M&I's Dry Low Emissions (DLE) combustion system. This unit is the first LM1600 with the DLE combustion system slated for commercial service.

The PGT 16 gas turbine consists of the LM1600 gas generator and the PGT 16 power turbine, designed and manufactured by Nuovo Pignone. The PGT 16 gas turbine will be coupled to a Nuovo Pignone centrifugal compressor, and will be installed on Station #2A in Elko, British Columbia along the pipeline owned by Alberta Natural Gas Company, Ltd. (ANG). The installation of this LM1600 is part of a replacement program underway by ANG at this station.

The LM1600 will operate on natural gas in continuous service. The LM1600 for the ANG project was built at M&I's Lynn, MA, manufacturing facility, and will be packaged by Nuovo Pignone at its Florence, Italy, plant. Delivery of the LM1600 to Nuovo Pignone is slated for the fourth quarter of 1996, and commercial start-up of the unit at the station is expected in the third quarter of 1997.

In August 1995, factory-testing of an LM1600 DLE combustion system was completed by M&I at its Evendale, OH, facility. During testing, the LM1600 demonstrated excellent emissions performance, achieving 21 ppm NOx, 6 ppm CO and immeasurable unburned hydrocarbons. The demonstration of the LM1600 DLE system in meeting its emissions guarantees is another element in M&I's on-going and successful DLE program for its LM6000, LM2500 and LM1600 aeroderivative gas turbines.

GE M&I, part of GE Aircraft Engines, is headquartered in Evendale, is the world's largest designer, developer and manufacturer of aeroderivative gas turbines for a variety of power generation, gas compression and commercial and military marine propulsion applications.
