EVENDALE, OH - GE Marine & Industrial Engines (M&I) has contracted with two of its Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), Nuovo Pignone and Dresser-Rand, to provide 10 LM aeroderivative gas turbines. The eight LM2500 and two LM2500+ gas turbines will be used for both power generation and compressor drive service at three gas fields owned by Petrobras, the Rio de Janeiro-based Brazilian oil/gas company.
Nuovo Pignone has contracted with Maritima-Petroleo e Engenharia Ltda., Rio de Janeiro, who is coordinating the platform construction for Petrobras. Nuovo Pignone will provide three LM2500 compressor drive sets for use at the P36 field in Campos; as well as two LM2500+ power generation and two LM2500 compressor drive sets for the P37 floating production, storage and off loading vessel to be moored in Campos. The LM2500+ gas turbines will use M&I's efficient high-speed power turbine manufactured under contract to GE by Nuovo Pignone.
Dresser-Rand has contracted with Toyo/Techint of Japan to provide three LM2500 compressor drive sets which will drive Dresser-Rand's DATUM compressors. The compressor sets will be used at Petrobras' Urucu field in Brazil's Amazon region, on high-pressure injection service (above 5000 psi).
All of the gas turbines will be fueled by natural gas, and will be manufactured by M&I at its Evendale, OH facility. Dresser-Rand will place the three LM2500s into compressor drive packages at its Olean, NY plant. The remaining five LM2500 and two LM2500+ gas turbines will be placed into compressor drive and power generation packages, respectively, at Nuovo Pignone's Florence, Italy plant.
All of the units are expected to be commissioned at the fields in the fourth quarter 1998 through the first quarter 1999. These new projects with Petrobras brings the total to 34 LM units ordered or operating in Brazil.
