GE Secures Contract With Kvaerner Energy to Provide LM2500 for Petronas Compressor Platform

October 10, 1997

EVENDALE, OH - GE Marine & Industrial Engines (M&I) announced it has secured a contract with Kvaerner Energy, Oslo, Norway, for an LM2500 aeroderivative gas turbine package. The LM2500 will drive gas compressors on the Petronas F23 gas field in the Central Luconia Province Sarawak, Malaysia. Sarawak Shell Berhad operates the platform as a Production Sharing Contractor to Petronas.

This project marks the first use of M&I's LM aeroderivatives on an offshore platform in Malaysia. M&I is also providing Sarawak Shell Berhad with on-site technical support and spare parts for the LM2500. The gas turbine will be manufactured at M&I's Evendale, OH, facility and will be put into a compressor drive package by Ebara/Kvaerner Energy in Oslo. Kvaerner Energy is an M&I Original Equipment Manufacturer.

This order brings the total to 20 LM gas turbines in service or slated for operation in Malaysia. In July 1996, M&I announced an order with another OEM to provide two LM2500 gas turbines for a barge-mounted power project in Malaysia. This project, which is owned by the Sabah Electricity Board, began commercial operation in 1997.

GE M&I is part of GE Aircraft Engines and is headquartered in Evendale. M&I is the world's largest designer, developer and manufacturer of aeroderivative gas turbines for a variety of power generation, gas compression and commercial and military marine propulsion applications
