Seven GE LM2500+ Gas Turbines With DLE Systems to Provide Compressor Drive Service at Four British Gas Stations

April 21, 1997

EVENDALE, OH - Seven GE LM2500+ aeroderivative gas turbines have been selected by British Gas TransCo, Hinckley, United Kingdom, to provide compressor drive service at four British Gas stations. All seven LM2500+s will be equipped with GE Marine & Industrial Engines' (M&I) Dry Low Emissions combustion technology.

"These are significant orders for M&I and another strong show of support for our LM2500+ gas turbine technology," said Rusty Glaser, M&I's market development manager for the LM2500+. "This is the first order British Gas has directly placed for GE aeroderivative gas turbines. British Gas is represented on the Executive Board of Directors for the Interconnector Project which recently endorsed our technology by choosing four LM2500+s to drive compressors on a new Bacton-to-Zeebrugge pipeline."

The gas turbine packages for British Gas will be provided by two of M&I's Original Equipment Manufacturers: Dresser-Rand of Olean, NY (five units with an option for a sixth) and Nuovo Pignone of Florence, Italy (two units). The LM2500+ units will be used at British Gas' Aberdeen Station (two units), Carnforth Station (one LM2500+), Bishop Auckland Station (two units) and Wooler Station (two units).

The Dresser-Rand LM2500+ packages will drive Dresser-Rand compressors, and will employ Dresser-Rand's Vectra high-speed power turbine. The Nuovo Pignone LM2500+ packages will drive Nuovo Pignone compressors, and will use M&I's high-speed power turbine.

Based on proven materials and technology, the LM2500+ is an enhancement of the popular LM2500. The LM2500+ can achieve 40,200 shaft horsepower or 30 megawatts and more than 40% thermal efficiency at ISO conditions. The LM2500+ units for British Gas will be manufactured by M&I at its Evendale, OH facility. Commercial start-up of the equipment at the four separate stations is slated for October 1998.

GE M&I is part of GE Aircraft Engines and is headquartered in Evendale. M&I is the world's largest designer, developer and manufacturer of aeroderivative gas turbines for a variety of power generation, gas compression and commercial and military marine propulsion applications.
