EVENDALE, OHIO - GE Industrial AeroDerivative Gas Turbines (GE-IAD) announced that two GE LM6000 aeroderivative gas turbines supplied by Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. (IHI) have been installed at a captive cogeneration plant being built for Indian Petrochemicals Limited (IPCL) in Dahej, India.
The two LM6000 gas turbines with inlet air chillers will be naphtha fuel-fired. The gas turbines will provide 90 megawatts of electricity and 240 tons per hour of high-pressure steam from the heat recovery steam generators manufactured by Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T), Mumbai, India. Electricity and steam generated will be used for IPCL's petrochemical process. IPCL manufactures and sells polymers, fibers and chemical products derived from hydrocarbon feed stocks.
L&T is handling the engineering, procurement and construction of the cogeneration plant, and installing the gas turbine packages. L&T will also be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the cogeneration plant under an eight-year agreement with IPCL.
This order brings the total to 11 GE LM aeroderivative gas turbines operating or slated for service in India: Five LM2500s currently operate on ONGC's offshore platform near Mumbai, one LM6000 is in service at a captive cogeneration power plant in Jaghadia, Gujarat State, and three LM6000s operate at a combined cycle plant located in Kochi, Kerala State.
The LM6000s for the IPCL project were manufactured by GE-IAD at its Evendale, OH facility. The gas turbines were placed into power generation packages by IHI at Kure Works No. 2. Commercial operation of the power plant is slated for October 1999.
Larsen & Toubro, headquartered in Mumbai, India, undertake EPC/turnkey construction of power plants. L&T also manufactures heat recovery steam generators and other power plant equipment.
IHI is an Original Equipment Manufacturer headquartered in Tokyo. To date, IHI has packaged 70 LMs for various power generation applications throughout the world.
GE-IAD is part of GE Power Systems, and is headquartered in Evendale, OH. GE-IAD is the world's largest designer, developer and manufacturer of aeroderivative gas turbines for a variety of power generation and gas compression applications. Visit us on the Internet at www.ge.com/iad
