    GE Aerospace is advancing the future of more electric flight

    Test by test, we’re pushing hybrid electric propulsion forward to meet customer needs for greater efficiency and durability for the future of flight. Multiple milestones have been achieved for hybrid electric aviation, including a 2016 ground test of an electric motor-driven propeller, the world’s first test in 2022 of a megawatt-class and multi-kilovolt hybrid electric propulsion system in simulated altitude conditions, and the successful demonstration in 2025 of a narrowbody hybrid electric system.

    Together, GE Aerospace and Safran unveiled in 2021 the CFM RISE program targeting more than 20% better fuel efficiency and improved durability compared to today’s engines. Plans are to demonstrate and mature a range of technologies for future engines including Open Fan engine architecture and hybrid electric systems.
