The T700, GE Aviation’s workhorse helicopter engine, has been going strong for 42 years and counting. This spring alone, the company was awarded $242 million in contracts with the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department took Jay Leno for a ride in a T700-powered Sikorsky Firehawk helicopter on his CNBC show Jay Leno's Garage. His take on the T700: “I should get that in my car. That would be alright!”

In the last month alone, GE Aviation has been awarded more than $476 million in contracts to produce military engines and hardware to support the U.S. military and international customers. 

Due in large part to enhanced T700-701D engines, the wildfire fighting Firehawk helicopter demonstrates increased engine power and reliability for hot-higher altitude operations and improved mission availability.

GE Aviation had an extraordinary 2019, putting up two new world records between the GE9X and the GEnx and helped transport the first human organ via drone.

GE Aviation’s capability to execute and deliver the most advanced turboshaft engines for the U.S. Army’s Future Vertical Lift (FVL) modernization is accelerating. By the end of 2020, GE Aviation will complete the transition of nearly 1,000 engineers from its commercial programs to its military programs.

GE Aviation hosted the U.S. Amy for the successful Preliminary Design Review (PDR) of the T901-GE-900 engine. The T901 is GE Aviation’s engine for the Improved Turbine Engine Program (ITEP), an undertaking to re-engine the U.S. Army’s Boeing AH-64 Apaches and Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawks.

While sometimes you must wait your turn, the T700 is boldly taking its “tern” now. In January, a T700-powered Tern Integrated Propulsion System Test (IPST) completed sustained vertical operations for the first time during testing in the California desert.
