The LEAP engine program of CFM International isn’t just a history-maker in commercial aviation because of its record sales. Additive manufacturing and digital tools that make factories smarter are helping GE Aviation meet record orders placed for the LEAP engine.

Summer 2018 included two grueling but immensely enjoyable months for aviation fans, starting in July with England’s high-profile 

GE and CFM power almost 5,000 engines in the U.S. Air Force. GE continues to work with the U.S. Air Force to improve aircraft performance and reduce life cycle costs.

The GE9X engine lifted off on March 13 under wing of GE Aviation’s 747 flying testbed in Victorville, California, for its first flight test.

Just five years after breaking ground, GE Aviation is investing an additional $105 million in its Asheville, North Carolina, production facility to meet growing demand for the revolutionary ceramic matrix composite (CMC) components produced at the plant. As part of the investment, GE Aviation will create 131 new jobs at the Asheville facility, significantly increasing its workforce of 425 employees.

“Middle East airlines continue adding routes and buying more planes to manage the increased demand,” said Aziz Koleilat, senior executive and general manager of GE Aviation Sales for the Middle East, Russia/Commonwealth of Independent States and Turkey. “We are proud to have more than 2,400 engines from GE and our joint venture partners power aircraft in the region. Our engines do truly move the Middle East.”
