GE Aerospace’s GEnx engines power first wide-body aircraft on a long-haul route to India using Sustainable Aviation Fuel
GE Aerospace’s GEnx aircraft engines powered the industry’s first wide-body aircraft on a long-haul route using Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) to India. Vistara, India’s full-service carrier and a joint venture of Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines, operated the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner ferry flight from Charleston, South Carolina, in the United States, to New Delhi, India, using a blend of 30% SAF with conventional jet fuel.
Middle East Breakthrough: Emirates Operates First Flight in Region Using 100% SAF to Power One Engine
Milestone moment: Emirates this week flew the first demonstration flight in the Middle East using 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in one of the two engines. The successful demonstration using a GE90-powered Boeing 777 helps show the compatibility of 100% drop-in SAF with existing aviation equipment.
An Engineer’s Delight: GE Aerospace, Boeing, and NASA Collaborations Accelerate the Future of Flight
Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and new aircraft engine technologies are both needed to reach net zero CO2 emissions by 2050. To help make this happen, Boeing, NASA, and GE Aerospace programs underway now are testing SAF emissions and hybrid electric powertrains.
SAFety First: Sustainable Aviation Fuel Is Taking Off, and Gurhan Andac Is Helping to See It’s Done Right
GE is engaged in what Gurhan Andac called an “all-in effort” to decarbonize aviation, which accounts for approximately 2.5% of global carbon emissions.
A Year of Sustainability Stories: How GE is Helping Decarbonize Flight
As GE unveils its 2021 Sustainability Report, we looked back at some of this year’s biggest developments, which include sustainable aviation fuel, software that improves efficiency, hybrid electric propulsion, hydrogen fuel and other technologies.

From America’s first jet engine to the world's most produced engine, GE’s legacy powering military aircraft is a strong one.
United To Fly World’s First Passenger Flight On 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel Supplying One Of Its Engines
Making history. Today United will fly the first commercial flight full of passengers to use 100% drop-in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for one of the aircraft’s two LEAP-1B engines.
The Art Of The Possible: UAE’s Etihad Airways Cut CO2 Emissions By 72% On A Recent Long-Haul Flight
A routine commercial long-haul flight scored an important aviation industry milestone last week when a Boeing 787 operated by Etihad Airways flew from London to Abu Dhabi on a fuel blend containing sustainable jet fuel. The plane’s carbon emissions were 72% below those of an equivalent flight in 2019.
