During a Senate Commerce Committee hearing yesterday on next-generation aviation technologies, GE Aerospace General Manager of Advanced Technologies Arjan Hegeman gave senators a look at what the company is doing to advance the future of flight.

GE Aerospace’s GEnx aircraft engines powered the industry’s first wide-body aircraft on a long-haul route using Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) to India. Vistara, India’s full-service carrier and a joint venture of Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines, operated the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner ferry flight from Charleston, South Carolina, in the United States, to New Delhi, India, using a blend of 30% SAF with conventional jet fuel.

Meet identical twins Laura Schreibeis and Lisa Kitko have called GE Aerospace their career home. Lisa's daughter Nicole Kitko recently joined the company in 2022 as an engineer as well. Though all three women work in different facets of the business, it only adds to their knowledge, allowing each of them the opportunity to learn about myriad aspects of the company and how they intertwine.

Krystal was looking for her next challenge in life and started with GE Aerospace a little over 6 months ago in the Powerplant Technician Apprentice Program where she is getting the hands-on experience and classroom training required to obtain her FAA Repairman certificate and FAA Powerplant certificate. Male-dominated industry, no problem. Krystal has accepted the challenge and is excited for the opportunity to be able to maintain, repair, and overhaul jet engines.

During a recent event held by the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA), a young GE Aerospace engineer, Brendan Freely, joined a group of peers onstage to talk about what excites them about careers in aviation.

When she was a little girl, every Friday for six years of her childhood, Devon Shepherd’s family would get in their minivan and drive to the airport to watch planes take off and land. Little did she know, plane spotting would help influence her into working at GE Aerospace for more than 20 years.

Air India announced on February 14 that it is buying 400 single-aisle and 70 twin-aisle commercial aircraft. To power the larger airliners — Boeing 787 and 777X twin-engine jets — the carrier signed an agreement with GE Aerospace for 40 GEnx-1B and 20 GE9X engines, plus engine services. Air India will also buy more than 800 LEAP engines from CFM International, a 50-50 joint company between GE and Safran Aircraft Engines, to outfit the smaller planes in the order, 210 Airbus A320/A321neo aircraft and 190 Boeing 737 MAX-family aircraft.

Air India, part of Tata Sons, has signed a firm order for 40 GEnx-1B and 20 GE9X engines, plus a multi-year TrueChoice™ engine services agreement. The deal was signed in coordination with the airline’s firm order for 20 Boeing 787 and 10 Boeing 777X aircraft.

Milestone moment: Emirates this week flew the first demonstration flight in the Middle East using 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in one of the two engines. The successful demonstration using a GE90-powered Boeing 777 helps show the compatibility of 100% drop-in SAF with existing aviation equipment.
